Moffitt Holds Two Spots on U.S. News & World Report's List of America's Best Hospitals, One for the First Time

TAMPA - H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute has made the "America's Best Hospitals for cancer" and "America's Best Hospitals for ear, nose and throat" lists in U.S. News & World Report. Moffitt ranks #16 and #42 respectively. This is the ninth year in a row Moffitt has appeared on the newsmagazine's cancer list and the first year for the ear, nose and throat list.

The hospital guide is on newsstands now. You can also view the lists online at www.usnews.com/besthopsitals.

The rankings are based on a mathematical formula that takes into account (1) the ratio between actual and expected mortality at a hospital; (2) a group of factors such as available technology, patient/community services, procedure volume and nursing care, including Magnet status; and (3) the institution's reputation based on a poll of 200 specialists in each field, averaged over three years. According to the magazine, "Out of 5,462 hospitals evaluated, only 173 met that standard in one or more specialties.
