Belleair Beach and Morgan Park

Your article about the deterioration of Belleair Beach and Morgan Park was right on.

As Canadians we have been visiting Belleair for many years as it was a nice quiet place to relax. A nice, clean and quiet beach, no shops, no service stations, nobody allowed to park on public streets, etc.

However, during the past years we found that more "boom cars" were cruising Gulf Boulevard for almost 24 hours. We suggested to the Mayor to fine those who have their radio turned up so loud that it could be heard 10' away as it has been done in similar tourist areas over here. We did not even get a response as usual from any of the present city officials. After the election of the new mayor things have continued to slide downhill.

After listening to the noise made by the equipment during the beach restoration, we now have to keep up with the noise made by carloads of surfing teenagers and visitors from as far away as Clearwater who found out that parking at Morgan Park is for free.

Many times I have gone out in the early morning to pick up bags of garbage left behind including empty liquor bottles.

The Chateau condo owners next door also had to put up an expensive 4' high fence by their insurance company to keep the "happy and noisy darlings" from coming on their PRIVATE property. We have witnessed them coming through the gate, use our shower, picnic tables and even the pool.

Some nights they even must have had a wild party as there were broken beer bottles on the concrete near the pool with a possible risk of injuring others.

Should it not have been the responsibility of the city to put up such fence as they were the ones who allowed the change of status of the park? Further, isn't it the duty of the Mayor and its Council to abide by the wishes of the majority of Belleair residents? I think it is!

Hopefully the above will not be re-elected next time.
