Cleveland Street Streetscape Update

provided by the City of Clearwater

This week, the contractor is concentrating on installing sidewalk pavers in the third block of the Cleveland Street Streetscape project from Garden to East avenues. The sidewalk in front of the Sun Trust building on the south side of the street is currently closed as pavers are being installed at the corner of Garden Avenue and Cleveland Street. Pedestrians are urged to exercise caution in the construction area as a pedestrian detour is in place that routes foot traffic across the street to the north sidewalk.

On the north side of the street, crews are busy constructing a pedestrian tunnel in front of the Station Square condominium project and are preparing to pour concrete that will complete a temporary walkway in front of the residential construction project. The tunnel is expected to protect passersby as vertical construction continues on the building. When the tunnel is opened, pedestrians will have access to Cleveland Street's north sidewalk from Garden Avenue through to East Avenue.

With the exception of the streetscape block that is currently under construction, all roads and intersections in the downtown streetscape area remain open.

Motorists are urged to observe the new traffic rules that are in effect in the completed portions of Cleveland Street from the bluff to Garden Avenue. They include no right turn at Fort Harrison Avenue and Cleveland Street for eastbound travelers, no u-turn at Cleveland Street and Osceola Avenue for westbound travelers and no trucks on Cleveland Street through the downtown area.

Patrons may take advantage of two hours of free parking in the Garden Avenue Garage, additional parking along Osceola Avenue between the Main Library and Cleveland Street, and designated parking spaces on Cleveland Street from Osceola to Ft. Harrison avenues. For further updates on construction, check out the city's website at www.myclearwater.com/downtown, or call the Streetscape construction office at 462 6126.

The next Hard Hat meeting is 8 a.m., August 30 at Pickles Plus in the Harborview Center. City and construction officials will be on hand to answer the public's questions regarding the project.
