Beach Walk Construction Updateprovided by the City of ClearwaterProgress on Phase II of Beach Walk is nearing completion. Storm drainage work, water main work, and roadwork continue. Keystones have been placed in the sand/seat wall that runs along the promenade. South Gulfview Boulevard remains closed to all but local traffic. A part of the new Gulfview Boulevard is open from Coronado to the Pier 60 parking lot. Phase III is scheduled to start shortly after Labor Day. Temporary parking lots off Coronado Drive remain open. Another temporary parking lot is available on East Shore, just north of Causeway Boulevard, that provides easy access to the beach. A sidewalk on the south side of the new Gulfview Boulevard accommodates walkers from Coronado to Pier 60. Two curb ramps are in place, making the sidewalk handicap accessible. A highly visible crosswalk is between the ramps. For safety reasons, pedestrians can only access South Clearwater Beach from Pier 60, or from south of the Barefoot Beach House. Those wishing to access businesses on South Gulfview Boulevard can take Coronado Drive to Fifth Street and go west. Remember to slow down when driving in all construction zones. The next Hard Hat Meeting will be in October. The targeted date for substantially completing the Beach Walk project is before Super Bowl 2009.
