Organization Rescues Strays

Mitch Rand, a volunteer from Largo High School, cuddles a recently rescued kitten named Katie at the Save Our Strays feline adopt-a-thon at the Largo Mall PetSmart on September 15. Save Our Strays is a non-profit, no-kill animal welfare group dedicated to finding homes for abandoned or homeless kittens and cats. It is an all-volunteer group with no paid employees which was incorporated in the fall of 1994. Since January of 1995, the organization has medically assisted and adopted out over 8,000 cats and kittens. All cats taken in receive a complete exam and are tested for feline leukemia and FIV. They also are spayed or neutered, vaccinated for distemper and rabies, dewormed and microchipped. Donations go directly to the medical treatment and care of the animals. Volunteers are always needed to transport a cat to a veterinarian or to an adoption site, man SOS booths at fundraisers, help out at PetSmart adoption centers on Saturdays and provide foster care in their homes. Persons who would to contribute their services may call (727) 481-5091.
