Clearwater Audubon Society - Oct. Field Trips

Wednesday, 10/10/07, 9:30 a.m. - Dunedin Causeway Kayak Float - Meet at Kayak Rental on the Causeway (rentals available); explore the shore birds on North Caladesi Island from the water. Contact: Jane Williams 727-447-7394.

Saturday, 10/20/07, 9 a.m. - North Anclote River Nature Park - Meet near Staples at US 19 and Tarpon Rd. to observe migrant songbirds and raptors at this quiet, little known gem. Contact: Merle Hubbard 727-939-1549.

Wednesday, 10/24/07, 9 a.m. - Ft. DeSoto County Park - Meet at Ft. DeSoto Ranger Station. Bring lunch and water to look for migratory songbirds, raptors, water and shore birds. Cruise the causeway and shoreline drive, then walk the 1-2 mile trail on Tampa Bay's north shore. Contact: Lynn Sumerson 727 - 596-8822. More info online at pinellascounty.org/park/05_Ft_DeSoto.htm.

Saturday, 10/27/07, 8 a.m. - Circle-B-Bar Ranch - Meet at Tri-City Mall in front of Party City. Bring lunch and water. Look for eagles and other raptors, songbirds, water birds and alligators at this former cattle ranch in xeric oak habitat on the shores of Lake Hancock with 3.5 miles of sand trail. All field trips are open to the public and most are free. Van trips involve sharing van rental expenses and require a reservation 3 days before the trip. Overnight trips involve additional costs for lodging and travel and also require reservations. In all cases, a contact is noted who can provide additional details. When the meeting place is Tri-City Shopping Center, assemble outside the Party City store near U.S. 19. When the meeting place is Countryside Shopping Town, assemble outside Sears near U.S. 19. Where there are no restroom facilities at the field trip site, the trip is marked "X". Rest stops will be provided en route. For all trips, please bring binoculars, field guide, drinking water and lunch (when long day trips are scheduled).
