Fred Marquis is Appointed Interim County Administrator

The County Commission appointed Pinellas County's former county administrator Fred Marquis the interim county administrator at the Sept. 25 meeting. Marquis served as Pinellas County's administrator from Sept. 25, 1979 to Sept. 30, 2000.

Commissioner Bob Stewart made the motion to appoint Marquis, following a discussion that included other interim candidates. Stewart said he had spoken to Marquis, who agreed that he would serve in an interim capacity if his appointment was approved by an unanimous vote. It was.

"Wow! I'm honored that the current commission would feel that I could provide an opportunity for stability while they look for a full-time manager," Marquis said.

The discussion included the consideration of other candidates. The appointment becomes effective Oct. 1. The county is currently drafting a contract that provides Marquis a $200,000 annual salary, with a $500 monthly car allowance. The contract would be renegotiated in one year.
