Beach Walk Construction Updateprovided by the City of ClearwaterExcitement about Beach Walk is building, as outward signs of progress become more visible. The beachside promenade is open from the lifeguard station near Pier 60, south to the Barefoot Beach House. The construction fence that was on the sand side (west) of the promenade is now on the east side, and pedestrians and bicyclists are already enjoying the new walkway. Nelson Construction continues their work with a targeted date for substantially completing the Beach Walk project before Super Bowl 2009. Clearwater Beach is as beautiful as ever and welcomes visitors. Stores and businesses remain open and accessible during construction. South Gulfview Boulevard is closed to all but local traffic, and all on-street parking on that road has been removed. The Pier 60 parking lot and temporary lots off Coronado Drive are open. Approximately 65 spaces are still available in the South Gulfview parking lot. Temporary lots are also available on East Shore Drive, just north of Causeway Boulevard. For safety reasons, pedestrians are reminded to cross streets using the marked crosswalks. A new crosswalk from the west side of Coronado Drive at Britt's' property provides access to the beach. The beach is also accessible from Pier 60 and the parking lot there. Motorists are reminded that the speed limit on Coronado Drive is 20 miles per hour. Remember to use extra caution in all construction zones. Storm work at the Bayway/Gulfview intersection will be done when an easement to perform the drainage work is received.
