Posing for a photo at the grand re-opening of the Largo Public Library Homework "Survivor" Center for middle school students in the Faucher Children's Wing of the Largo Public Library on October 10 are (standing l-r) Bright Futures volunteer Honor Bailey, Youth Services homework coordinator Jennifer Schaffer, Youth Services manager Mercedes Bleattler, Largo City Commissioner Gay Gentry and Pinellas County School Board member Linda Lerner. Checking out the new computers are Anastasia Allen (seated at front) and Austin Herzog (seated at back). Mission of the center, according to Schaffer, is to provide students in grades 5-8 an inviting, comfortable and overall stimulating environment in which they may complete school work, read for enjoyment and participate in library-sponsored activities. Schaffer said the long term goal of the center is "to promote 'new' learning through participatory means with all resources available, print and technological, to instill in our student group the concept of enjoyment in education."
