Coast Guard and West Marine Participate in Vessel Safety Check Event
Dana Herbst and Mike Fiumefreddo perform a Vessel Safety Check on Thomas Tamanini's new powerboat.
On Saturday, October 27, members of the U.S.C.G. St. Sand Key and the Clearwater flotilla of the Coast Guard Auxiliary were on scene at West Marine, in Clearwater, to conduct free Vessel Safety Checks and answer boaters questions. In addition West Marine offered 20% off all safety items needed to comply with U.S.C.G. requirements. In spite of the rainy weather boaters showed up to get their vessels inspected, pick up literature, and check out the Coast Guard's 25' motor boat. Deaths from boating accidents continue to rise and boaters are encouraged to keep their vessels in compliance and attend a safe boating program to learn how to safely operate their vessel on the water.
