Letter sent to Governor Charlie Crist - taxAs a small business owner in Clearwater Beach I would like you to be aware of the hardships your recent $1 per square foot tax increase will impose on myself and many others in this area. Many businesses in the area are close to failing due to the lack of tourist business in the area. The combination of construction activity and slowing in general because of the economy has many of us considering just giving up. When we were notified of the tax increase it seemed like the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back". Is there any way this increase could be postponed? I realize the state needs money also, but if the price of doing business in this area continues to be more than we can take in, both the business owners and the state lose.
