Unequal tax-unfair tax

Like many others, we fell in love with Clearwater Beach, decades before we could be here permanently:

Before north beach was 'improved '-- eliminating tide water lapping at sea walls,
Before so many gulls and terns and pipers flew away,
Before 'old folk' stopped playing bridge on the pier,
Before our leaders squeezed out the 'Mom & Pops', the regulars with them (then lamented the loss of tourists/accommodations,
Before beer bottles, cigarette butts, and other trash outnumbered collectable shells, and
Before insurance and taxes made living here an impossible dream.

Unequal tax-unfair tax. What's not to understand? Our burden must be shared - - through sales, not property, taxes. (And use all those administrative dollars for necessary things.)

Or, shall we all, like the seabirds, have to fly away?

Vicki Jackson, Clearwater Beach
