Cut Property Taxes Now!

House Speaker Marco Rubio Supports Property Tax Cap plan! Grassroots Coalition Growing.

NEW PETITION CREATED ! - 1.35% Cap reflects latest tax data and gathers large donors/political support. - download NEW petition at www.CutPropertyTaxesNow.com or at http://election.dos.state.fl.us/initiatives/fulltext/pdf/45595-2.pdf

After careful analysis, minor petition revision and coalition building, Cut Property Taxes Now was able to attract support from House Speaker Marco Rubio for its plan to cap property taxes on all Florida properties. Based on recently released 2007 property tax collections projections from the state, Cut Property Taxes Now has revised the cap to 1.35% and made other minor modifications in the plan to ensure it gains support by 60% of the voters in an election and stands up even better to Supreme Court scrutiny. The new 1.35% cap also addresses local government critics who say a 1.25% cap will be too deep, and will hurt their budgets.

Big donors have been attracted to the idea too and Cut Property Taxes Now has enough funds to begin a professional signature gathering campaign along with all important grassroots efforts. Cut Property Taxes Now was able to collect 10,000 signatures with the 1.25% plan, so knows it can collect even more with this plan, given the financial support gathered.

The 1.35% plan would still:

  • Cap taxes for all Florida property owners (homesteaders/non-homesteaders).
  • Cut local tax collections (and your bill) an average of 25% and in some places 40%!
  • Applies to TAXABLE VALUE (NOT the market or Just value).
  • Be eligible for inclusion on the 11/2008 ballot.
  • Preserve Save Our Homes and Exemptions (Since it applies to TAXABLE VALUE).
  • Provide that for each $100,000 worth of property, your taxes would not exceed a total of $1,350 total no matter how many taxing authorities taxed your property. This is equivalent to a 13.5% millage rate.

Grassroots tax relief groups from around the state have joined the effort.
