Cleveland Street Streetscape Updateprovided by the City of ClearwaterWork on the Cleveland Street Streetscape is 95 percent complete. Crews are finishing up details to the project entrance at Myrtle Avenue, final electrical and landscaping work, and addressing outstanding punch list items along the remainder of the project site. While traffic lanes should continue to flow while most of the work is completed, some lanes will be blocked off, and there will be short, intermittent closures for final storm drain clean-outs through out the project. The public is invited to join city officials and Santa for the initial lighting of downtown's holiday decorations Friday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Royalty Theatre. Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be served and a jazz band will provide entertainment. Following the lighting ceremony, Santa will lead the crowd into the theatre to enjoy a free holiday film screening. The official opening of the Cleveland Street District, as the newly completed project will be known, will be "unwrapped" as the city's holiday gift Friday, Dec. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. A ceremony at 5:30 p.m. will be followed by adult refreshments, craft vendors and entertainment. The party will continue Saturday, Dec. 15 immediately following the 11 a.m. holiday parade from Crest Lake Park to Myrtle Avenue. Family activities in the new downtown district will include a climbing wall, scavenger hunt, multiple entertainment stages, craft shopping and more. Watch for grand opening notices and additional details in local publications. Until the completion of the project, downtown patrons may take advantage of two hours of free parking in the Garden Avenue Garage, additional parking along Osceola Avenue between the Main Library and Cleveland Street, and designated parking spaces on Cleveland Street from Osceola to East avenues.
