Illuminated Gardens Brighten Holidays

See how more than 425,000 colorful lights can transform Florida Botanical Gardens into a holiday wonderland at its annual Illuminated Gardens display through Thursday, Jan. 3. The Gardens are all decked out in a blanket of glittering holiday lights that showcase the beauty of the plants and landscapes. Start a tradition with families, friends and visitors by strolling through the Gardens any night from 6 to 10 p.m.

The Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation is adding extra fun on Fridays for families at the Illuminated Gardens with Friday Nights and Garden Lights on Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. Families will enjoy these free events that offer something a little different on each Friday. All donations will support the Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation.

  • On Friday, Dec. 7, the traditional Children's Parade of Wings takes flight, but participants must call (727) 582-2247 to sign-up. Lori Hafer and the Music of Your Life Band will provide entertainment. Visits with Mother Nature are planned. Treats for children are seed necklaces and Circle of Earth bead necklaces from Mother Nature. Scratch-off ornaments and temporary tattoos add to the fun. For a suggested $5 donation, children get a photo taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
  • On Friday, Dec. 14, free music, refreshments and children's holiday craft activities will be offered. Florencio Guitars, a World Music Trio, will entertain. Treats for children are seed necklaces and Circle of Earth bead necklaces from Mother Nature. Scratch-off ornaments and temporary tattoos add to the fun. For a suggested $5 donation, children get a photo taken with Mother Nature.
  • On Friday, Dec. 21, The Lyle Warner Trio will provide great musical entertainment, and free refreshments will be offered. Treats for children are seed necklaces and Circle of Earth bead necklaces from Mother Nature. Scratch-off ornaments and temporary tattoos add to the fun. For a suggested $5 donation, children get a photo taken with Mother Nature.

To see the Gardens' beauty during daylight hours, be sure to sign up for a free Wetland Wildlife & Nature Tour Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 to 10 a.m. This tour will take nature lovers along a mulched path to learn about marsh, swamp and riverine ecosystems.
