
Belleair Beach Island Garden Club Celebrates with Holiday Luncheon
Photo by SANDI FAHY BELLEAIR BEACH - Members of the Belleair Beach Island Garden Club gathered at Jorge's Seafood Grille in Largo for their annual Holiday Luncheon on December 5. There were games and prizes and gifts for all. Regular meetings will resume at Belleair Beach City Hall, 444 Causeway Blvd., next month. A master gardener from the Pinellas County Extension Service will address the group on January 16. Subject of his/her presentation will be "Growing Vegetables in Florida." Following the 10 a.m. program, attendees will enjoy a potluck luncheon. "African Violets" will be discussed by a member of the Pinellas African Violet Society at the club's February 20 get-together. Time is 10 a.m. Lunch, catered by the Columbia Restaurant, will follow. The ladies will travel to St. Petersburg on March 19 for a guided tour of Sunken Gardens. Plans call for a Panera Bread-catered lunch on the outdoor pavilion there. Karen Rodowicz of J.K. Flowers in Belleair Bluffs will be guest speaker at the April 16 meeting of the club. She will present a program on silk floral arrangements at 10 a.m. Lunch will be potluck. This meeting will be the last of the 2007-2008 season. The Belleair Beach Island Garden Club is the result of a merger in 1991 of the Belleair Beach Garden Club, which was formed in 1947, and the Island Garden Club, which was founded as a second garden club for the communities of Belleair Beach and Belleair Shore in 1959. Officers are Mary Chacanias, president; Jan Rives, 1st vice president; Sara Kolodisa, 2nd vice president; Sherrie Morton, recording secretary; and Sue Edmunds, treasurer.
