Clearwater Businesses May Be Eligible for Up to $20,000 in Water Rebates

CLEARWATER - The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) and Pinellas County Utilities are offering rebates up to $20,000 to industrial, commercial, and institutional customers towards the cost of installing new equipment and processes that conserve water at existing facilities. Customers are eligible if they receive their water supply directly from Pinellas County or from the cities of Clearwater, Pinellas Park, Safety Harbor, Oldsmar, and Tarpon Springs.

Customers can install new equipment and use processes like these to conserve water at existing facilities:

  • Replace water-cooled ice machines with air-cooled units.
  • Find a way to reuse high-quality rinsing water, combined process, air handler condensate or stormwater to be reused for landscape or other uses.
  • Convert cooling towers to reclaimed water or alternate water sources.
  • Install water saving equipment in commercial kitchens, laundry, or car wash establishments.
In order to receive a rebate, the project must reduce a facility's current water consumption by at least 1,000 gallons per day. The available rebate for each project is $2 for each gallon per day saved up to 10,000 gallons, for a maximum rebate of $20,000 for 10,000 gallons per day saved.

Rebates will be awarded based on demonstrated water savings. A performance contractor may be used to assist with program costs and help determine the equipment or process changes to achieve the greatest savings benefit.
