50 Years of Spreading the Message of Christ Locally and to the World

LARGO - First Baptist Church Indian Rocks, 12685 Ulmerton Road, Largo, will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on January 11-13, 2008.

Indian Rocks invites the community to this very special weekend of events, starting with a free concert by Avalon ….. Friday evening, January 11, at 7 p.m. in the Worship Center. There will be a love offering.

Avalon members Jody McBrayer, Melissa Greene and Janna and Greg Long have had a busy last couple of years. They have performed in front of over 500,000 fans, hit the 3 million sales mark and seen their 20th #1 radio single. Prior to that Avalon has had 20 Dove nominations; six Dove Awards, two Grammy nominations, a 2002 American Music Award for Contemporary Inspirational Music and have been "Group of the Year" for three years in a row with the 2002, 2003 and 2004 CCM Reader's Choice Award.

Plan an old fashioned picnic sort of day at Indian Rocks on Saturday, January 12, with the following activities on and around the Indian Rocks Athletic Complex: 5K Fun Run 8 a.m. ($15 for pre-registration and $20 the day of); Tournaments - Softball 9 a.m., Horseshoe 1 p.m., Kickball 3 pm; various Relay Races 11 a.m.; Tug of War 5 p.m. Musical events are planned for the outside stage by the following Indian Rocks Ministries: Indian Rocks Christian School 11 a.m., Solid Rock Company 1 p.m. Super 60's Showcase 2 p.m.; High Definition Band 4 p.m.; God's Country 5:30 p.m. Food vendors (Chick-Fil-A, Kettle Corn, Joto's Pizza, Mr. Bills, Guppy's Coffee, Rita's Italian Ice and Shiloh BBQ Boys) will be on hand or bring your own picnic lunch. Stop by the Family Life Center Multi-Purpose Room at 2 p.m. to watch the pie and cake judging. The Grand Finale for the day will be a Fireworks Display at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday, January 13, the Indian Rocks family and community are invited to one combined 50th Anniversary Celebration Service at 10 a.m. in the Worship Center.

Through the vision and support of the Calvary Baptist Church of Clearwater, the Indian Rocks Baptist Chapel opened its doors on Sunday morning, January 5, 1958, at the Anona Elementary School. Indian Rocks cannot forget its heritage and the godly men and women who have been a part of this fellowship in years past, who helped set the course for our dream. God miraculously provided the financial and material means to reach out to all people. The rich heritage of Indian Rocks has earned the reputation for being a lighthouse in the Largo community and looks forward to reaching future generations with the wonderful message of abundant life in the Lord.
