Cleveland Street Streetscape Updateprovided by the City of ClearwaterWith work on the Cleveland Street Streetscape substantially complete, only punch-list items and amenity details remain. Motorists will note that 45 parking meters are now active at parallel stalls along the project route at a charge of $.50 per hour. Six of the meters have 30-minute maximums to expedite patronage; three in front of the U.S. Post Office and another three on the south side of Cleveland Street between Ft. Harrison and Osceola avenues. Regular rates for all public parking garages and lots are also in effect. Downtown patrons will also notice that the pedestrian tunnel in front of the Station Square Condominium project has been removed. Vertical construction is complete on both the Water's Edge (Opus) and Station Square condominium projects and progress on build-out of both of these residential towers along the Cleveland Street Streetscape route continues. Paver sidewalk near the project will not be completed until the Station Square Condominiums are complete and Station Square Park is renovated. The Cleveland Street District, as it is now known, officially opened with events on Dec. 14 and 15. Crowds tapped their toes to live entertainment before the ribbon cutting, or 'unwrapping of the city's holiday gift' on Friday evening. Attendees enjoyed food, refreshments and the ambiance of the holiday lights along the newly completed thoroughfare following the ceremony. The city rolled out the district's new logo that will soon be visible on publications, banners and marketing materials for the area. Saturday's daytime Holiday Parade was a fitting kickoff to festivities along Cleveland Street that lasted well into the afternoon. Crowds packed the street for entertainment, games, crafts, a petting zoo, and rides in hay wagons, on ponies and in a rocket car. The city is planning additional events for the streetscape on a regular basis. Watch for details in local publications and on the city's website.
