St. Petersburg Democratic Club to MeetSt. Petersburg Democrats will hear local surrogates speak on behalf of six presidential candidates leading up to the presidential primary. The meeting, to be held at the St. Pete Diner, 13th Ave. North and 34th St., on Wednesday, January 23rd , at 7 p. m., is open to the public. Delegates to the national convention in Denver will be selected in March based on the results of the January 29th primary. Presidential candidates, Clinton, Edwards, Gravel, Kucinich, Obama and Richardson, will be represented and the audience will have an opportunity to question the surrogates. "In past election cycles Florida voters never had a voice as to the selection of the nominee, but this time it will be different" according to Jim Donelon, president of the St. Petersburg Democratic Club, Inc., P.A.C. "With super Tuesday on February 5th, the entire nation will once again be looking to Florida to judge the strengths of the various candidates and, in fact, the results in Florida may well determine the eventual nominee. Although moving up the date of the primary has caused some problems with the Democratic National Committee, it appears certain that in the end our delegates will be seated at the convention to select the next President of the United States," Donelon concluded.
