Greyhound Walkathon in Tampa

TAMPA - Greyhound Rescue & Adoptions of Tampa Bay, Inc. and Greyhound Pets of America - Tampa Bay are proud to announce the 2nd Annual Parade of Greys... a walkathon to benefit retired and rescued greyhounds. The walkathon will take place Saturday, February 2, at Al Lopez Park at Shelter # 315 and field (adjacent to the playground).

Rain or shine, enjoy a one mile walk, fellowship with other greyhound lovers, and learn more about the different groups that work tirelessly to find homes for retired racing greyhounds! Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the Walk begins at 12 p.m. There will be food and beverages available for purchase, games, raffles, contests and lots of great pet merchandise.

GREAT, Inc. and GPA - Tampa Bay are nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organizations based in West Central Florida and serving Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk, Hernando, Manatee, and Sarasota counties. Each group takes in retired racing greyhounds and provides all pre-adoption veterinary care including spay/neuter and vaccinations, and places the dogs into adoptive homes. Foster care, kennel care, veterinary expenses, adoption and public awareness programs are entirely staffed by volunteers and solely funded by donations, grants and monies raised during fundraising efforts.

The greyhound adoption community is divided on the issue of greyhound racing and the politics surrounding the industry, but each of the groups involved in this event has set aside personal views on racing and committed to focusing solely on helping the dogs.
