The Way I See It

By cj pollick

Election Results - In a close race, Sen. John McCain narrowly beat Gov. Mitt Romney in the Republican primary Tuesday. Mayor Rudy Guilliani came in third and Gov. Mike Huckabee came in a distant fourth. As expected, Mayor Guilliani dropped out of the GOP race endorsing his friend Sen. McCain. Gov. Huckabee, who came in fourth, stated he would continue campaigning. Of course, some political pundits have stated that they believe Gov. Huckabee is trying to position himself as a possible running-mate with Sen. McCain since his only apparent role in continuing his presidential campaign is to take votes away from Gov. Mitt Romney.

On the other side of the political spectrum, Democrats in Florida were snubbed by the Democrat national party who stated they would not recognize any Florida delegates as a result of a non-endorsed Democrat primary. With Sen. Hillary Clinton as the only person listed as a Democrat candidate, she easily beat other Democrat candidates such as front-runner Sen. Barack Obama. However, and due to his poor showing in all Democrat primaries, John Edwards dropped out of the presidential race on Wednesday. Edwards did not endorse any other Democrat candidate.

The presidential primaries appear to have come down to the following choices: Sen. Barack Obama vs. Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democrats and Sen. John McCain versus Gov. Mitt Romney for the Republicans. The list is getting small and after "Super Tuesday" the list could be down to two people.

Clearwater election results reflected support for incumbent Mayor Frank Hibbard over former Mayor Rita Garvey by a 60-40 margin. Term limits for Clearwater officeholders was also increased by a year.

Amendment 1 (Property Tax Amendment) passed the support of Florida voters and is expected to cut property taxes by about $240 for most citizens. Gov. Charlie Crist strongly supported this property tax amendment that required over 60 percent voter approval in order to pass. Gov. Crist has stated that he believes this is a step in the right direction to help cut property taxes for Florida homeowners.

Super Bowl Sunday - Whether you are a fan of the New York Giants or the New England Patriots, history will be made on Sunday. If New England wins, it will become the only undefeated NFL team with 19 wins in a single season. If New York beats New England, it would go down in history as the team that not only won the Super Bowl, but the team that beat the regular season undefeated (18-0) New England Patriots.

Tom Brady vs. Eli Manning at quarterback.

History will be made on Sunday. (Go Patriots!)

Clearwater Beach Gains A Holiday Inn - Former Gulfview Beach Resort's conversion to Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites will celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday, February 5th, at 10 a.m. There will be entertainment, food and local dignitaries. A great addition to Clearwater Beach.

Talk About Hate Groups - There is a liberal non-profit organization called Americans United for Change (yes, those types of groups tend to use deceiving titles to sway voter thinking) that plans to spend about $9 million in 2008 to denigrate President Bush.

The reason for this attack against President Bush?

They want to make sure his citizen approval ratings fall in 2008.

President Bush has a 35 percent approval rating. However the U.S. Congress has an approval rating under 20 percent. The Way I See It, this radical non-profit group should target members of Congress for unacceptable job performance. Bush is on his way out; however, our ineffective U.S. Congress remains in office.

Why can this political organization spend donor contributions on attacking Bush? Bush is not a candidate for elected office. On the other hand, and as an elected official, Bush is fair-game for attack groups running distorted television ads referring to themselves as Americans United for Change. You will soon see these biased attack ads in print and on television.

Kenya Is In Civil War - Not many people follow civil wars in far places such as Africa. Yet, there is more civil unrest in Africa than most any place on earth. Recently rival tribes in Kenya killed over 800 people due to civil unrest and tribal fighting. Many innocent people are being killed every day in Kenya.

What is the United Nations doing to help stop this civil war? Not much, lip service mostly.

In fact, when it comes to horrific crimes such as modern-day slavery, Africa leads the way with slave trafficking.

Ted Kennedy Endorses Barack Obama - When Sen. Ted Kennedy endorses a Democrat candidate for the presidency, most people begin to wonder if it really means that much. After all, Kennedy has dreamed about being president ever since he was elected to Congress, of course, that was before Chappaquiddick.

When Sen. Kennedy endorsed Sen. Barack Obama on Tuesday, he proclaimed that the reason he favored Obama over all others was due to Obama's ability to enter the job as fully qualified and ready to lead. That assertion was immediately questioned by Washington political pundits and other candidates.

Does the endorsement of Ted Kennedy mean votes?

One Democrat consultant stated that Ted Kennedy's endorsement did, in fact, mean votes in places where the Kennedy name was still held in high regard, such as in Massachusetts. With Kennedy joining the list of other big-name supporters of Obama, such as Sen. John Kerry, it makes you wonder how close those people were with the Clintons.

Economic Stimulus Package - Here is the economic stimulus package developed by some of the brightest people in Washington:

  • Any wage earner in 2007 would receive a government check for $300.
  • Most wage earners would receive $600 and $1,200 if married.
  • Each child of taxpayers would be worth another $300.
  • If a single taxpayer earned over $87,000 in 2007 you get nothing. Jointly taxpayers who earned over $174,000 get nothing.

After this "economic stimulus" hits millions of taxpayers' pockets, our leaders in Washington believe our economic injection (need) is over. Imagine such a simple economic solution by our president and congress to help resolve our current recession! Yep, brightest people in Washington came up with this simple plan. (Now you know why we can't count on Washington to solve our fiscal crises.)
