Young Artist Showcase Offers Area Students a Chance to Shine

TAMPA - A popular addition to the Raymond James Gasparilla Festival of the Arts returns for the third year when Young Artist Showcase exhibits juried artworks created by Tampa Bay area students from local Art Magnet Schools (grades 6 to 12).

Nearly 50 paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, sculpture, glass, mixed media works and more produced by these aspiring artists will be on display throughout the March 1-2 event that will be held on Franklin Street and Lykes Gaslight Square Park in downtown Tampa.

First initiated in 2006, the Young Artist Showcase provides students the opportunity to create original art, submit it for selection and compete for awards and the honor of being named Best of Show or a recipient of one of the following: High School Award of Excellence; Middle School Award of Excellence; or Award of Excellence in jewelry. The winning students and their teachers receive gift certificates and art supplies valued at nearly $2,000.

Elementary students from Tampa Bay's Art Magnet Public Schools also participate in the showcase by providing works created for school projects.
