Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

You've seen the building on the public parking lot on Bay Esplanade, just east of the tennis courts. It looks like a construction trailer. It sits like a construction trailer. It sounds.....no, it doesn't sound like a construction trailer. It has all the sounds of a library -- the soft swish of pages turning in a good book -- the gentle murmur of voices exchanging ideas and the quiet click of computers communicating with the world.

It's all there in this temporary home of the Clearwater Beach Branch Library. And that includes a wide selection of DVD for you to take home and enjoy. There are two computers you can sign up and use. Or you can order a book from the vast Pinellas County Library system and pick it up the next day without braving the traffic to get to the mainland branch.

Library hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and visitors may obtain a card by showing evidence that they are staying in the City of Clearwater -- a rent receipt, etc.

Meantime, over at the nearby Clearwater Beach Recreation Center, they are still talking about the Family Game Night, held recently. A group of families and friends gathered for fun and laughter, ranging in age from the seventies to one year old. And no, the one-year-olds did not play Spin The Bottle! More Family Game Nights are in the planning stage and, meantime, you might want to check out the regular programs available at the "Rec Center". It's all right there, just off of Mandalay Avenue, across from the Fire Station.
