Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

"Move!" says your doctor. "It's good for you."

"Move!" says the psychologist. "It perks up your brain."

"Move!" orders the wife, or husband, or mother, or whoever cares about you and your wellbeing. "You'll be better off."

"I'd rather not," responds your body as you lounge in front of the TV, or computer, or whatever. (Hopefully someone is busy with a good book from the Clearwater Beach Library.)

Well, I'm here to tell you, if moving is good for you, moving to music is better. That's why you need to try the Line Dancing, starting tonight (February 21) at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center. Class is from 6:30 to 7:45

Line Dancing is more fun because: you don't have to wait for a partner -- no one steps on your feet -- no one cares if you miss a step -- the instructor likes you -- the music is livelier than anything you have at home. Give it a try. You'll like it!

Bring a friend. You don't dance "with" others but you can dance "beside" them and that's fun too. Makes for some laughing moments!

Besides, you need to do Line Dancing to get in condition for the Sox Hop. That's right. A great old-fashioned Sox Hop. Coming in March.

And, if you just can't, or won't, or refuse, to move. You can always check out one of the dozens of DVD's at the Library, temporarily located in the Rec Center parking lot, and enjoy a "feet up" evening while the rest of us are pounding the boards at the Rec Center.
