46th Annual Ed Wells, Jr./ Kiwanis Invitational Track and Field Meet to be Held

CLEARWATER - The 46th Annual Ed Wells, Jr./Kiwanis Invitational Track and Field Meet will be held Wednesday, March 26, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Clearwater High School

For 44 years, Ed Wells, Jr. was Meet Director and spearheaded the fundraising of hundreds of thousands of dollars to resurface the Clearwater High School track - in fact, four times! In 2005, the entire track was rebuilt to world class and Olympic standards valued at $250,000. His vision and personal commitment to accomplish this for our community was remarkable. Kiwanis is honored to continue Ed's legacy - hosting Florida's best high school invitational track meet. Jim Ewbank is Meet Director. Jim currently serves on the club's Board of Directors and is a past president.

Thirty-two boys and girls track teams from Pinellas county high schools will participate. Over 400 medals will be awarded to the top eight places for each event. Trophies will be presented for 1st and 2nd place for both boys and girls teams along with MVP awards for the top scoring boy and girl athletes. The students truly appreciate competing in the meet.

Throughout most of the years, around 30 High School Boys teams from the Tampa Bay area participated. In the past two years and again this year, two track meets will be held at the same time for Boys and Girls teams from within Pinellas county.

Kiwanis is asking for community support as a Track Meet Program Advertiser or Event Sponsor to help defer the cost of the event and help support the club's 25 annual service projects. The deadline for printing purposes is March 17th. Call (727) 725-7549 or visit the club's website for more information.

The club's website is www.kiwanis.org/club/springtimecity.
