Jim Bennett Appointed County AttorneyThe Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the appointment of Jim Bennett as county attorney. The appointment was made at the commission's March 11 meeting. "Mr. Bennett has demonstrated not only his expertise but has earned the confidence of his department," said Commission Chairman Robert B. Stewart. "The commission is comfortable with him and has been impressed with his communications and legal knowledge." Bennett has served the county as interim county attorney since Sept. 4, 2007. He was chief assistant county attorney from 1994 to 2007 and assistant county attorney from 1987 to 1994. The appointment, he said, is gratifying and he credited the legal department and its clients for their professionalism. "The legal staff is in a class by themselves and that makes the job fun and rewarding," said Bennett. "That also makes the product exceptional. The county sets the standard."
