Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisSpring is coming! Spring is coming! How do I know? For one thing, the annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Friday, March 21, at Mandalay Park (next to the Beach Fire Station), at 6 p.m. Co-sponsored by the Clearwater Beach Association and the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center, the egg hunt is free to all. Children should remember to bring a basket -- adults their cameras. For another thing, the Beach Recreation Complex swimming pool will be open for the season on March 17. Put away your sweater, don your bathing suit and come celebrate Spring with a splash. It's not clear what the Sock Hop, planned for tomorrow night, Friday, March 14, is celebrating, but it is clear it will be a big celebration. Rumors are it will be worth the $5 admission just to see the costumes, watch the dance performance, hear the music and enjoy the Root Beer Floats, served up by people who were there when Sock Hops were a regular thing. It's at the Recreation Center, from 7 to 10 p.m. Between times, you might want to pick up one of the new, or old, movie DVD's at the Clearwater Beach Branch Library, temporarily located in the parking lot of the Recreation Center. My favorite is Robin Williams' "Man Of The Year" about a comedian who just wanted to spoof the politicians by running for president. He wins! Wait 'til you see what Robin Williams does with that. Incidentally, this movie is fiction. It's not supposed to resemble any real person, living or dead. But then it was written before the current presidential campaign.
