Girl Scouts Honor Local Women of Distinction

TAMPA - Girl Scouts of West Central Florida (GSWCF) will honor four local women during the seventh annual Women of Distinction recognition luncheon - an event that honors women who have achieved success in their chosen fields and who serve as role models for girls and young women.

The event marking the seventh annual Women of Distinction luncheon to benefit Girl Scouts of West Central Florida will take place on Tuesday, March 25 at noon at the A La Carte Event Pavilion, 4050 Dana Shores Dr., Tampa. This year's Women of Distinction guest speaker is Mary Matalin - wife, mother, political strategist and best-selling author. Matalin will speak about her most recent best-selling book Letters to My Daughters, in which she shares the moral, ethical and occasionally comic life lessons gathered from her mother's and her own experiences.

The 2008 Women of Distinction are:

  • Carol J. Barnett of Lakeland, President of Publix Super Market Charities.
  • Angeles S. Ferlita of Tampa, a devoted philanthropist and community advocate.
  • Marsha Starkey of Odessa, a long-time volunteer, environmentalist, philanthropist and community advocate.
  • Jean Giles Wittner of St. Petersburg, business woman, community leader and volunteer.
All four of the 2008 Women of Distinction symbolize the courage, confidence and character that Girl Scouting instills in young women today. Their community leadership and advocacy, both personally and professionally, set leading examples for Girl Scouts of all ages.

Tickets for the 2008 Women of Distinction luncheon are $75 per person. Sponsorship opportunities are available at Gold ($5,000), Silver ($2,500), Table ($1,500), Bronze ($750) and Individual Patron ($125) levels.
