
National Society of Arts and Letters Announces VOICE Competition WinnersThe National Society of Arts and Letters Clearwater/Tampa Bay Chapter held their 2008 Career Awards VOICE Competition auditions in the Murray Theater Studio at Ruth Eckerd Hall on March 8, 2008. First Place Winner Alexandra Walker from St. Petersburg, who will represent the Clearwater/Tampa Bay Chapter at the National Competition in Bloomington, Indiana, sang three selections among which was Un Bel Di from Puccini's Madam Butterfly, a Strauss piece, and a piece by Debussy. Second Place Winner, Jenny Heidtman from Atlanta, sang Meine Liebe ist Gran by Brahm, followed by pieces by Offenbach and Donizetti. Third Place Winner, K. Marie Konsol, sang pieces by Verdi, Gluck, and Debussy. All three winners will present at the NSAL Clearwater Tampa Bay Chapter Award Luncheon on April 12 where they will be presented with their awards. Judges for the VOICE Competition were: Rosalia Maresca, Program coordinator for Largo Cultural Center, opera training studio at Ruth Eckerd Hall, General Manager - Florida Lyric Opera, former singer and producer. Won Cho, Assistant Professor of Voice and Director of Opera Program at USF, bass baritone with concert and stage performances around the world. Nancy Garma, Instructor of Voice for Musical Theater for TBPAC's Patel Conservatory, Musical Director for Patel's Spring Youth Theater Group. Melody Kielisch, world renowned soprano performing operas, operettas, oratorios and solos in theater, on TV and on recordings.
