Marine Raiders Extend Invite to all Servicemen

Members of the Marine Raiders Lunch Bunch gather for a photo at Shell's Seafood Restaurant on Clearwater Beach on March 28. The group, whose purpose is to perpetuate the memory of the Marine Raiders of World War II, meets each Friday at 11:30 a.m. Persons who have served in any branch of the military are invited to join them. Shell's is located at 551 S. Gulfview Blvd. What is now known as the Lunch Bunch was founded as a social organization in the early 1980s by a Marine Raider by the name of Col. Tony Palonis. Get-togethers were orginally held in Ybor City. The Marines have been meeting on Clearwater Beach since 1992. Special events include the Marine Corps Birthday Dinner and a charity golf tournament.
