Beach Walk Construction Update
provided by the City of Clearwater
The much-anticipated opening of the new South Gulfview Boulevard is Thursday, April 17. Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard, Vice Mayor George Cretekos, Councilmember Paul Gibson and Former Mayor Brian Aungst will be among the first to drive down the new road. Officials will meet at City Hall at 8 a.m. to proceed to the beach. Other vehicles will be able to follow the city van and be among the first to share the Beach Walk experience.
Crosswalks are in place and the promenade will be open on both sides of South Gulfview Boulevard, with the exception of the east side section immediately in front of the Hyatt Aqualea construction site.
Those exiting the Pier 60 parking lot will now be directed to head south on Gulfview Boulevard. The Salt Block parking lot on the site of the former Adams Mark Hotel is open with 94 temporary parking spaces.
Work will resume on Coronado Drive next week to include on-street parking, final asphalt and additional lighting. This final work on Coronado is expected to take two to three months.
The last Beach Walk Hard Hat Meeting will be 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 6 at Shephards Beach Resort, 619 Gulfview Blvd. All work on the $30-million Beach Walk project should be done in July, well ahead of schedule. Visit www.myclearwater.com/beachwalk for more information or call 562-4681.
