An Almost Forgotten SportClearwater's best kept secret. As most sports fans know if you play professional sports, baseball, football, basketball, your career is usually over when you reach your mid thirties. If you were good you probably made some money. But now what do you do with your life? Are there any other challenging sports? Oh yes, golf. Hey, anybody can hit a golf ball. Did you forget about horseshoes? It's more than just a holiday game in the back yard twice a year. Most pitchers are just coming into their prime about this time. Horseshoes is a lifetime sport; you can play it every day, and only get better. Ask many world champion members. Another great thing about this game, you never sit on the bench, you play! The Clearwater Horseshoe Club is open to the public, to play any time. You can join, and be an active member. Men, women, juniors of all ages are welcome. The Club hosts an event usually the first Saturday of every month, starting in October through May. This year, the Club averaged 66 to 99 players in various classes. Play is weekly on Tuesday and Thursday, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. During this period, on Wednesday night, members play year round, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. It doesn't matter how you pitch, or if you are just getting started, this is a handicap league, which makes you equal to the top pitchers. The Clearwater Club has been recognized as one of the best in the country, and is ranked in the top five as one of the oldest in existence in the country for over 35 years. The facility is also home to the Florida Hall of Fame Pitchers. You are invited to watch the 48th Florida State Horseshoe Championship, starting April 23rd, through April 26th. Now that you know this facility is in the area, located in Ed Wright Park, home of the Clearwater Horseshoe Club at the intersection of Lakeview drive, and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, drive down and check it out.
