Volunteers Sought to Spruce Up Clearwater's East Gateway

CLEARWATER, - Clearwater's Neighborhood Services Division, in conjunction with Keep Pinellas Beautiful Inc., is seeking helpers to spruce up the city's East Gateway area.

The Saturday, May 3 cleanup is from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will focus on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard between the split from Court Street at Five Points northwest to the merge with Cleveland Street closer to downtown. Parking will be available at the Dreyfus Law Firm, 1463 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd., at the corner of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard and Franklin Street. Keep Pinellas Beautiful will provide water, trash bags and litter grabbers.

The Community Response Team will conduct a code sweep in the East Gateway area bounded by Highland Avenue, Missouri Avenue, Gulf-toBay Boulevard and Drew Street following the cleanup.

The East Gateway District was established as part of the Community Redevelopment Area in 2002. In the ensuing years, the East Gateway Character District was created, an East Gateway Task Force comprised of city staff has developed strategies to effect positive change in the neighborhood, and the CRA has worked with the neighborhood to develop a five-year community-based action program. Area cleanups and code sweeps are consistent with the program goals.
