Cops Trade Guns for Gloves to Help Sick Teen

Clearwater and Largo Police Officers will trade their guns for softball gloves to raise money for Dutch D'Amico, a teenager, with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia.

The 5th Annual Charity Softball Challenge will be held Friday, April 25th, at Bright House Networks Field, 601 Old Coachman Road (NW Corner of US Hwy 19 and Drew Street).

Dutch was diagnosed with leukemia last December. The money raised will help with the mounting medical bills for the D'Amico family. Dutch is the son of Clearwater Police Officer Kevin D'Amico. Dutch has been in and out of the hospital for medical treatment, but hopes to be at the game. Of course, that will depend on how he's feeling that day.

The charity softball game begins at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 dollars and include admission to the Clearwater Threshers vs. Sarasota Reds game at 7 p.m. immediately following the charity game. The price also includes all you can eat and drink (hot dogs, hamburgers, peanuts, popcorn, sodas and bottled water) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free for children aged four and under. There will be games for the children and a silent auction.

The tournament record for the "Clearwater Strike Team" is 3-1. This is the third year in a row Clearwater faces Largo. The first victory went to Clearwater and the second to Largo. This year don't miss the exciting tiebreaker!
