Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

Next month is "meet your friends at the pool" month. Well, who says I'm not entitled to create a "month" of my own? You can celebrate by switching from "lunch dates" with your friends, to "splash dates" at the Clearwater Recreation Center pool? In the first place, it costs less. In the second place, it's better for you, physically, to be moving about together rather than sitting and eating. And, just possibly, it's more fun. I believe in fun!

How about, instead of "meet me for a drink after work," you go for "meet me at the pool for a dip." Do it for a month and it might get to be your best good habit.

Beginning May 12, the Aqua-Cise program begins. This year it's scheduled in the evening as per popular request. We could make it a neighborhood get-together time -- a "re-create with your neighbors at the pool" time where you can get to know your neighbors, keep up with the important news of the neighborhood, exchange important information and get healthy, cooling exercise at the same time. It will beat the evening news of TV even after the election is over.

Aqua-Cise is scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6 p.m. to 6:45.

The price is right! If you buy a Recreation Card for $5 ($25 for the family!) the admission price for the pool is $2 for those under 19 and $3 for the rest of us. If you are a serious pool enthusiast, there are other prices. Ask about them.

The pool is now open, Monday through Friday, from Noon until 6:45 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It's also easy to afford. You buy an individual recreation card for $5, or a family card for $25 regardless of number of kids.

Be a friend! Invite a friend to join you in celebrating May as Meet Your Friends At The Pool month.
