Carlouel Yacht Club will be the setting for the Clearwater Alumnae Panhellenic Scholarship Brunch on May 10. Highlights of the affair will include the installation of officers for 2008-2009, awarding of scholarships to deserving sorority women and presentation of the 2008 Panhellenic Achievement Award. Outgoing president Joyce Metcalf of Chi Omega will turn the gavel over to president-elect Kim Swartzel of Delta Delta Delta that day. Other officers to be installed are Claudia Leonardi of Delta Gamma, vice president; Lynn Lawton of Kappa Alpha Theta, treasurer; Pat Moriarty of Pi Beta Phi, recording secretary; and Christine Regan of Kappa Delta, corresponding secretary. Host sororities for the event are Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Delta Delta, Sigma Sigma Sigma and Zeta Tau Alpha. Clearwater Panhellenic, which is affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference, is composed of some 400 college alumnae representing 18 national sororities. Raising monies for scholarships is the main objective of the organization. Each spring since 1975, scholarships have been awarded to local sorority women attending college in or out of state. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, participation in sorority and campus activities, personal goals, initiative and financial need. The amount of the scholarships given annually is dependent upon the funds raised through various Panhellenic activities throughout the year. Over $75,000 has been awarded to date. Events scheduled for member sororities this past year included the President's Reception in September, Literary Muse Luncheon in October and the Tri-City Panhellenic Luncheon and Largo Cultural Center Premiere Night in February. For those who enjoy playing cards, there is the Panhellenic bridge group and, for book lovers, there is the Panhellenic Book Club. Both groups meet once a month. All sorority alumnae living or visiting in the area are invited to attend the upcoming luncheon. For details, call 446-7573.
