Lights Out on Beach While Turtles Nesting

With the official start of turtle nesting season that began Thursday, May 1st, residents and property owners of beachfront properties are reminded it's time for "Lights Out" along the beachfront. Most of Pinellas's beach communities have ordinances prohibiting lighting that casts glare onto the beach during turtle nesting season - May 1st to November 1st. Clearwater is the only city with no beach lighting ban, but all county residents are encouraged to turn the lights out after 9 p.m.

To report sea turtle activity call the Clearwater Marina Aquarium at 441-1790, ext. 22.
