Sand Key Beach CleaningMany Sand Key homeowners have the expense of cleaning Sand Key, Clearwater public beach. Some condo buildings choose not to pay for cleaning the beach in front of their buildings In the past the reason frequently given by the City for not cleaning was that Sand Key is not designated "Tourist" as is Clearwater’s Main Beach. Now that we are "tourist" zoning areas such as the Shoppes of Sand Key perhaps the City could reconsider the beach cleaning. We have thousands of visitors that walk Sand Key beaches that are guests at the Sheraton and the Marriott. We now have a flashing kiosk on Gulfview Blvd. directing Clearwater Beach traffic to "more beaches and parking" on Sand Key. Additionally, we now have Ironman 70.3 visitors. Our cleaning company cleans monthly and is not permitted to remove any debris. Often bird carcasses, logs, and large pieces of trash lay on the beach for weeks. More frequently and thorough cleaning by the City would greatly enhance the quality of our beach to tourists and residents. - Paul Ingham
