AJGA Makes Annual Trip to Avila Golf & Country Club
First American Title Junior set for June 23-26, 2008
BRASELTON – The American Junior Golf Association will once again return to the Tampa,, area for the sixth-annual First American Title Junior Classic June 23-26, 2008. Avila Golf & Country Club will be the host site for 78 of the nation’s best boy and girl junior golfers between the ages of 12-18.
This year’s event at Avila Golf & Country Club will be a 54-hole stroke play competition that begins with a Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament Monday, June 23 at 9 a.m. (shotgun). An official practice round will follow that day for all tournament participants at 2:30 p.m. The tournament tee times will run from 7:30-9:27 a.m. off Avila Golf & Country Club’s first and 10th tees Tuesday, June 24 through Thursday, June 26. An awards ceremony will immediately follow play Thursday, June 26. Spectators are welcome to attend and admission is free of charge.
Prior to the event, an AJGA Qualifier will be staged at Emerald Greens Golf Resort & Country Club Sunday, June 22 to help round out the tournament field and allow less experienced juniors “play their way in” to the First American Title Junior Classic. The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA, the largest Association of its kind, has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 foreign countries.
AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada.
