Morton Plant Mease Sports Medicine Program, Athletic Trainers Honored for Providing “Premier Internship Experience”

CLEARWATER - The Morton Plant Mease Sports Medicine Program at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater has been honored with the Internship of the Year Award by the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions upon the recommendation of the Department of Physical Education and Sport at Central Michigan University (CMU) in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The Morton Plant Mease Sports Medicine Program received the award for its internship program offered to CMU students under the guidance of Morton Plant Mease certified athletic trainers Scott Anderson and Matthew Benson.

Morton Plant Mease has provided sports medicine internships to CMU students for approximately 10 years.  Anderson was presented with a plaque in honor of the award at the 2008 National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium held in St. Louis, Missouri in June.

In addition to CMU internships, the Morton Plant Mease Sports Medicine program helped initiate the Pinellas County School System’s Athletic Training Program to provide complimentary physical exams for student athletes and athletic trainers on the field during school sports events.
