Morton Plant Mease Triathlon Participants Provided Alternative Racing OptionsCLEARWATER - Due to severe weather that forced the cancellation of the Morton Plant Mease Triathlon on Sunday, July 13, triathlon organizers are offering athletes who were registered for the event the following alternative racing options: Participation in the Athletes for a Cure Triathlon benefiting prostate cancer research on Sunday, September 21. The event is an Olympic-distance event taking place at Lake Buena Vista (Walt Disney World Resort). The general entry fee is $150 and is being offered to all Morton Plant Mease Triathlon registrants at a discounted rate of $80. For those requesting entry into the inaugural Athletes for a Cure Triathlon, please contact Philip.lahaye@baycare.org and you will be assigned a registration code to use when registering on www.active.com, to be completed by mid-August. Morton Plant Mease Triathlon registrants may also request deferral of their entry fee to the 2009 Morton Plant Mease Triathlon by sending an e-mail to triathlon@baycare.org. The tentative date for this event is Sunday, July 12, 2009. The entry fee for 2008 registrants will be $40. Morton Plant Mease will notify registrants via e-mail with a registration code this December. Registration will open on January 1st and you will be required to register by January 31st or forfeit your 2009 discounted entry. The Morton Plant Mease Triathlon takes place at Sand Key Park in Clearwater and features a 1/3-mile open water swim in the Gulf of Mexico, 13-mile bike over the Sand Key, Belleair Causeway and Memorial Causeway Bridges and 3.1 mile run finishing in Sand Key Park, Clearwater. Morton Plant Mease Triathlon registrants were notified via e-mail about alternative race options and a detailed announcement was also posted at www.mpmtriathlon.org. More than 800 individual participants and relay teams were registered to compete in the triathlon. The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Proceeds from the triathlon benefit the Morton Plant Mease Foundation which provides philanthropic support to the four community owned hospitals of Morton Plant Mease Health Care.
