Grant Benefits North Ward School

Thanks to a $2500 Lowe's Tool Box Grant grant awarded to North Ward Elementary School art teacher Amanda Swisher, the school's grounds got a facelift last week. Over 1,000 plants, including native yellow lantana, Indian Hawthorne, coleous and Mame crotons now grace the front of the building along with a Drake elm tree, two crape myrtle trees and ground cover. Among those taking part in the planting project on August 4 under the direction of Lowe's commercial sales specialist and landscape designer Tom Armstrong (shown at back, center) are (from left) 4th grade teachers Sarah Webb and Michelle Brennan and principal Sandra Cowley.
