Largo to Fund Entertainment for Largo Community CenterBy Bill LopezLARGO - Three years ago, the Largo Community Center introduced a performance series titled “Celebrity Showcase” offering low-cost daytime variety entertainment for seniors. Based upon a positive response with over 400 attendees at each performance, the city staff recommended expanding the program from four to a total of ten performances in FY 2008. The city is proposing to contract for 10 performers using the Ricardi Talent Agency that has provided previous talent for the series. Since the total cost of all 10 performances will exceed the $25,000 purchasing limit, a purchase order encumbering the funds for the fiscal year will not be issued until after October 1, 2008. The city approved a staff request at this time in order to move forward with Professional Service Agreements to reserve the acts and dates for the upcoming Celebrity Showcase season that begins in late October 2008.
