Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisThe preliminary city budget has been determined. The good news is our brand new library is not going to be closed. The bad news is it will only be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. The instructions from the City Council to City Manager Bill Horne was that no libraries be closed, but $400,000 was cut from the library system budget and shortened hours are one of the ways to accommodate the cut. The new hours take place beginning September 29. Volunteers are needed more than ever to help our librarian who will be responsible for both our library and North Greenwood. Sign up at the library to spend a few hours helping your community. At least the library is not going to go away and, if the usage increases, and the budget crunch lets up in years to come, we will be able to once again extend the hours.
