Indian Rocks Beach Raises Utility RatesBy Bill Lopez
INDIAN ROCKS BEACH - After an exhaustive utility rate study conducted by Burton & Associates, Inc. for the City of Indian Rocks Beach, the city is imposing a rate increase for sewer services and solid waste removal effective November 1. Residential, apartments, multifamily, motel, mobile homes, and trailers will see their sewer service rates move up from $23.72 per month to $37.95 for all of next year. Subsequent rate increases will then be imposed each year through 2013 when the rate will be set at $44.96 per month. Nonresidential and mixed-use building rates are based on metered flow with a base charge per unit that will go from $12.45 to $19.92 effective November 1 for 2009 and then up to $23.60 in 2013. The city will apply a two-tiered volumetric charge per 1,000 gallons for the first 10,000 gallons of $1.98 that will escalate to $21.35 in 2013. For each 1,000 gallons over 10,000 a rate of $4.00 will be applied that will escalate to $4.74 in 2013. The city will review any special conditions such as filling of swimming pools or broken water lines for a rate adjustment on a case-by-case basis. Trash removal rates moves from $13.31 to $21.30 per month for single units and $20.23 for multi-units and $23.41 for commercial units for two pickups per week. Dumpster removal service rates go from $181.02 to $468.51 depending on size of the dumpster. Rates for additional pickups will be applied well.
