Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisWe are all invited to a reception, Friday night, September 26, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Clearwater Beach Library (located now in the Beach Recreation Center, in case you haven't heard). The reception will be in honor of our Librarian, Linda Hamrell, who, after 22 years of faithfully shepherding our library through three changes in location, has been moved back to the Main Library. Linda has noted our reading preferences -- helped us with our choices -- kept things tip top and neat as a pin and made sure everyone knew they were welcome. We will miss her even though she is only moving across the bridge. Since last October, Linda's assistant, Lee Kibbe, has become an important part of the Beach Library also, but she, too, will be returning to the Main Library during the general turn-over associated with Big Bad Budget Cuts. Because the North Greenwood Branch Library and the Beach Branch have now become "joined", they will both be supervised by Librarian Lisa Kothe, assisted, part time, by Joyce Kirchosser during the new hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The reception will be given by the Friends of the Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center. Come and wish Linda well in her new adventures. While I was at the library, consulting with Linda about books to make available to the members of the upcoming writer's group, which begins in October, I peeked in at the newly renovated fitness center. The large windows and beautiful view are a big improvement over the closed in space that used to house the Center. I was reminded of what an improvement it is over the dark, cave-like atmosphere there used to be, all those years ago. We'll have to congratulate the architect for using the wonderful views to advantage. See you Friday evening.
