Wishing Our Librarian Bon VoyageBy Anne McKay Garris
(Left to right) Clearwater Beach Association President Jerry Murphy, Ms Hamrell, Friends of the Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center Chairman Pat Power, and "Friends" member, Anne Garris. Clearwater Beach Library patrons and volunteers gathered, Friday, September 26, to wish librarian Linda Hamrell "boy voyage" as she sails across Clearwater Bay to a new position at the Clearwater Main Library. Linda's shift is one of many made necessary in the library system by the reduction in the library budget mandated by the Clearwater City Council. Jerry Murphy, president of the Clearwater Beach Association presented Linda with a framed citation from the CBA in appreciation of her 22 years of library service to the Clearwater Beach community. Pat Power, chairman of the Friends of the Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center, had a framed caricature for Linda which depicted her sitting on a pile of books and surrounded by drawings of the four places she has been librarian on Clearwater Beach. These included the Memorial Civic Center site; the Pelican Walk site; the temporary trailer and, the new Clearwater Recreation Center/Library building. As of yesterday, Beach Library hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.
