The Way I See ItBy cj pollickStone Crab Season Began Oct. 15 – It’s that time of year once again!! Try Frenchy’s, Cooters or Heilman’s Beachcomber for these sweet succulent crabs. Belleair Beach Bridge Closed - The Belleair Beach Bridge will be closed Saturday evening, Oct. 18, from 8 p.m. to Sunday morning, Oct. 19, at 7 a.m. Belleair Beach New City Hall Building - The land has been cleared, sidewalks are being constructed, and it's just about time to notice a concrete foundation being poured for the new Belleair Beach City Hall Building. However, not everyone in town supports the $3.3 plus million project, " We think it was a waste of city funds to finance a new building when the older building could have been refurbished at a much lower cost," stated one retired BB couple. The economy could not have been worse to build such a building." However, a former city official stated that he thought the city was in good financial shape, "I think we are fine. The city must watch expenses since revenues have dropped for all cities, but the building project seems to be within budgeted numbers." Clearwater Jazz Holiday - It is time for another Clearwater Jazz Holiday at Coachman Park in downtown Clearwater. This popular event will be held this weekend. Renown jazz musicians will again be a part of the many events. There will be plenty of food, refreshments and, of course, plenty of good music. Don't miss the Jazz Holiday at Coachman Park. You will find the event schedule in the Gazette. Acorn And Election Fraud – There was a time when Barack Obama was an attorney for a group called ACORN. ACORN was/is allegedly a non-profit group that helps to register new voters. ACORN’s funding comes from government coffers, candidate campaign funds and other sources. Obama’s campaign has given over $800,000 to this group to register voters. Even though ACORN states that it is non-partisan, it has endorsed Barack Obama. Now the bad news. People who go out and register voters (via ACORN) are paid “by the numbers.” One Ohio voter said he told ACORN he was already registered, but they helped him complete 76 voter applications with 76 false addresses. The same story is being told across America . . . even in sworn testimony. How bad is voter fraud? It is bad and getting worse. The government is now investigating voter fraud and ACORN. Why would Barack Obama support ACORN? Votes. What Obama Is Not Saying About Taxes - If you listen to the political rhetoric of Sen. Barack Obama, you might believe that 95% of Americans will get a tax break. Not true. As one commentator once said, "This is the rest of the story." What Obama does not make clear is that about one-third of U.S. taxpayers do not currently pay income taxes. They would, however, under Obama's tax plan, according to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, receive tax credits in the form of a new government check. Call it a form of federal welfare. Who will pay for this new government entitlement? Those American people that pay taxes. The re-distributed funds, of course, must come from the government treasury; hence, from those people who pay taxes (the remaining two-thirds of all taxpayers.) Then again, Sen. Obama wants to increase capital gains taxes, as if anyone has any investment gain to tax, and to further increase taxes for those fortunate folks who earn over $250,000 in any household. Tax, tax, tax and spend. Sound familiar? It should, former President Jimmy Carter tried that tax plan and the voters could not wait to kick him out of office. Four years of Jimmy Carter was enough. Remember Ronald Reagan? He said that the weak U.S. economy needed tax relief - - Reagan won the presidency and cut taxes. The American economy recovered under Reagan's tax plan and the U.S. entered an era of financial prosperity and a smaller federal government. Jobs were created by lowering taxes and more money was collected by the U.S. government. If Obama stymies business growth and capital investment by increasing taxes, jobs will be lost, so say financial experts. People with big money are needed to help put more working capital into the market; if investment taxes frustrate that concept, then the only source of business investment capital is the U.S. government (and the question is: how much money should we have our government print?) Ronald Reagan’s tax plan vs. Barack Obama’s? Voters will decide in a few weeks. Why Pick On Sarah Palin When Joe Biden Is An Easier Target – Senator Joe Biden (D-Del.) has been in elected office since … well, before John McCain (R-Ariz.) and that’s a long-time. Folks who know Joe Biden sometimes appreciate his good humor and, at other times, cringe over what he says. For example, it is the same Joe Biden who once said “Hillary Clinton would be a better candidate than Barack Obama.” Or the time Joe referenced Indians with 7-11 stores. Yes, it was Joe Biden who, during the last debate, call Bosnians “Bozniacs.” And yes, it was Joe who asked an elected candidate (who was confined to a wheelchair) “Please, stand-up!” Joe Biden as vice president? Imagine what he might when he is angry! Go Gators – If anyone was questioning the Florida Gators football team, they became believers after last Saturday’s beating of a good LSU team. Gators will be a national contender after beating Alabama in the SEC playoff game. Gators are for real and Tebow is the best. Go USF – The BULLS play Syracuse at home on Saturday. A win helps to put USF back as a leader in the BIG EAST. GO BULLS. Tampa Bay Rays – Can you believe how awesome they have been? Only one more win to go! GO RAYS! Folks, we live in a great area for sporting events that’s for certain!! |
