Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

Come -- be a kid again! The Beach Recreation Center and Library are looking for volunteers to help with the big, exciting Halloween party, planned for Thursday, October 30. Both the library and rec center will be open from 6:00 to 8:00 PM to help the community celebrate with games and goodies, excitement and well, "trembly things."

You're invited to help with fun things like feeding beanbags to the pumpkin, rolling the ping pong ball or even Put Put Golf. There will be a costume contest and prizes for everyone who even "tries."

In the Beach Library part of the Rec Center there will be a "not so scary" story for little folks at 7:00 PM and Halloween crafts the rest of the time.

Dress up your children. Gather up your grandchildren. This is an adventure they won't want to miss. And, for the grown-ups, it's a whole lot better to watch than TV. I remember one couple who showed up at all of the Halloween parties at the Chapel-By-The-Sea when, heaven help me, I was in charge. Their children and grandchildren were long grown, but they came every year, bought a long string of tickets and happily gave them out to the youngsters. And speaking of tickets, they will cost a roaring 10c each at the coming party. You need one for every game.

If you decide to be one of the lovely people who will volunteer to help on the 30th, please call the Recreation Center at 462-6138, or the Library at 462-6890. Please be there at 5:30 so you can be in place by the time the young ghosts and goblins show up.
